Hello 5th Graders,
I want to remind you of something very important. While researching, you viewed videos, artifacts, and texts that were created at the time the Civil Rights Movement was taking place. In these materials are words and terms used to classify Black Americans that we do not use today, remember they come from a time when things needed to change. When you share what you have learned, it is inappropriate for you to refer to black people as being "colored", classify them as "negroes", or to use any other unacceptable terms.
Read the following guidelines for your presentation:
When planning your slides, think about visiting a museum where visitors learn about the American Civil Rights Movement. Your Google Slides will be the exhibit used to teach people about the topic you have researched.
A description of how this person/group/event got other people to change their minds during the civil rights movement. What happened next?
Think about cause and effect: How does on thing lead to another? Try to connect your topic to other people and events from the civil rights movement.
Citations: What sources did you use to find your information?
All presentations are due this Friday. Questions ~ Send me an email [email protected]

- All of your written information will appear on the slides ~ This is different than the American Revolution Remix project. The way people will learn about your topic is from READING what you write about it on each slide.
- Be creative ~ add images of the person/group/event you researched to support your writing.
- Organize your information in your slides in a way that makes is easy for people to understand.
- Your Google Slides presentation should include the following information:
A description of how this person/group/event got other people to change their minds during the civil rights movement. What happened next?
Think about cause and effect: How does on thing lead to another? Try to connect your topic to other people and events from the civil rights movement.

- There is no set amount of slides ~ your slides will explain what you have learned about.
- Be sure edit your work for spelling and grammar ~ Remember, what you are writing about happened in the past. Be sure the names and places you are writing about are spelled correctly, capitalization of proper nouns matters.

Social Studies Studies
Online Learning Project
After learning about the groups of people who fought in the Revolution that didn’t have their stories told, we will look at another time in American history where people struggled for equality. During your online learning experience, you will study important events and people who fought for social change during the American Civil Rights Movement.
Your Task: Research your teacher assigned topic from the civil rights movement and create a Google Slides presentation about how this person/group of people/event helped create social change during this time in history. Life wasn’t great at this time, the way people treated other people needed to be changed. How did the person, group or event you research get everyone in the United States to understand what was going on?
Your Google Slides presentation should include the following information:
ALL I AM ASKING IS THAT YOU TRY YOUR BEST!! It’s really weird for me to be doing this from home, too!
Don’t stress over it. Try and learn something new each day.
Remember to email me with any questions ~ I'm here to help you [email protected]
